FAQs
The following is
a list of frequently asked questions about homeschooling and some answers to those questions:
Question: Is it legal to homeschool in my state?
Question: How will I know my child is learning
everything he needs to keep up with his peers?
Answer: Buy a reputable prepackaged
curriculum to make sure you are teaching at grade level or if you are piecing together a curriculum from various materials,
you can find out specifically what public schools in your area are teaching in each grade by visiting your local district's
website. You may be surprised to find that most homeschooling curricula is more advanced than what the public schools are
teaching
Question: Does my child need to take standardized
tests?
Answer: It depends on your state
Question: What about friends?
Answer:
Most Christian homeschoolers are involved in their church and have plenty of church friends that they see as often as three
or more times per week. Most churches have youth groups which provide activities for teenagers. Many homeschooling families
are large enough that there are siblings to play with in between church days. Some homeschoolers are also involved in sports
or homeschool groups which have regular field trips.
Question:
What about records, grades, and a diploma?
Answer: You will probably be
allowed to keep your own records and give out your own grades, depending on your state. Umbrella schools and correspondance
courses offer record keeping services and diplomas from actual schools to homeschooled students. You will probably want to
enroll your child in one of these programs when he enters high school. You can also have your homeschooled student simply
take the G.E.D. test when he is ready to graduate. Regardless of which kind of diploma is issued, the military and many universities
readily accept homeschooled students.
