Homeschooling Schedules
(each family is unique and some students work faster than other, but the following are some sample schedules)
1. More Regimented Style (Works well with teacher-driven curriculum)
The following is a sample homeschooling schedule for an 8th grader and a 5th grader studying Monday through Friday.
8:00 (Kids are already dressed and groomed and have eaten breakfast) Bible Memorization Bible Reading World Geography and Cultures Math English 10:00 15 minute break 10:15 History Science Penmanship Elective or Literature 12:00 School is Out--Lunchtime (P.E. is done later in the afternoon on Mondays and Thursdays)
The following is a sample homeschooling schedule for a four and a half year old in kindergarten studying Monday through Friday.
8:00 Bible Memorization Bible World Geography and Cultures Story Time Numbers and Math Art 9:00 15 minute recess 9:15 Letters Phonics Blending and Reading 10:00 School is Out
2. More Relaxed Schedule (Works well with ACE School of Tomorrow Curriculum)
With ACE, all you need is an order of subjects and a start time. The following is our current homeschooling schedule for 5th and 8th grade.
8:30 Schoolwork begins (kids have been up since 8:00 and have eaten and groomed themselves)
The two oldest kids are required to start with Bible (they review the verses that they are memorizing), then math, and then English. They may choose the order of the remaining subjects and may take a 15 minute break any time after 10:00 a.m. I keep the answer keys handy and check their work as they complete it. I stay available during that time to answer questions or teach a new concept. They are usually done by lunchtime.
Lately, our P.E. takes place on either Tuesday or Thursday when we
visit another homeschooling family. The other family lives in a rural
area on several acres and the kids play basketball and baseball while we are there. The
other mom is my daughter's piano teacher, so are killing two birds with one stone during the visit.
Kindergarten usually takes place a little later in the afternoon while the baby is sleeping.
I read or quote the chapter of the Bible that I am memorizing aloud to my 5 year old and she quotes parts of it along with me. We then do a little bit of reading and writing in her workbooks.
